Who are we?

About us

We are the Ocean Scouts, a vibrant and dynamic group of young people; Our first commitment is to the proper use of the free time of the children and youth of Galapagos with a view to ensuring that they obtain an ethical and responsible personal growth, an ethical and responsible personal growth, with our mind focused on the ocean that feeds the Galapagos.

Mission

To empower our young people to become responsible stewards of the Galapagos ocean environment; without neglecting the activities on land, typical of the scout, learning through experience, promoting leadership and teamwork.

Vision

To manage, by all lawful and ethical means, the creation of a world in which marine and terrestrial biodiversity are of help to human beings; to achieve social influence to generate informed citizens who help mitigate the onslaught of climate change and develop palliative and preventive actions against climate change.

More about our Scouts

We are members of the World Organization of Independent Scouts (WOIS) and practice the traditional scouting created and developed by our founder Robert Baden-Powell, but we are also committed to environmental stewardship by taking a unique approach to the ocean surrounding the Galapagos Islands, going beyond the simple practice of seafaring and venturing into the development of scientific protocols supervised by science people and aimed at the understanding of the marine environment from different angles, such as: sports, seafaring, oceanographic, fisheries, etc. with the ultimate aim of achieving experiential learning that allows us to penetrate the ocean and learn to protect it and live from it, promoting leadership and teamwork. And a deep respect for nature.

We are “Always ready on land and sea” to meet conservation challenges and contribute to a sustainable future, particularly in the face of climate change.
