From May 1 to 4, 2025, the Galapagos Ocean Scouts will hold a very special event: the “MATAZARNO” Survival and Endurance Camp, a formative experience that seeks to strengthen not only the practical skills of our young people, but also their spirit, their connection with nature and their capacity for resilience.

MATAZARNO: More than a Name, a Symbol

The camp is named after the MATAZARNO, a native Galapagos tree known for its toughness and toughness. This tree is not only an endemic species of the archipelago, but also a powerful philosophical symbol of the Galapagos spirit.

Since ancient times, trees have been representations of life, strength, connection to the land, and perseverance in the face of adversity. In the case of the MATAZARNO, its ability to thrive in extreme weather conditions makes it a perfect metaphor for the character we seek to cultivate in our scouts: resilience, adaptability and inner strength.

Philosophy and Nature: A Living Lesson

During the camp, participants will not only face physical challenges and survival techniques, but also reflect on the deep meaning of the natural environment around them.

The MATAZARNO represents the need to adapt and flourish even in the most challenging contexts. Just as this tree supports the life of other species in the ecosystem, our scouts will learn about the interconnectedness of all forms of life in Galapagos and the value of acting with generosity, service and harmony with nature.

A Transformative Experience

Camp MATAZARNO will be an opportunity for our scouts to strengthen their team spirit, face their limits, and develop essential skills such as:

  • Orientation in nature
  • Managing natural resources with respect
  • Collaborative work in challenging conditions
  • Philosophical reflection on nature and the human being

All this in a context that promotes introspection, solidarity and respect for the unique environment in which we live.
